February 1, 2014 – Kansas City Metro – Mersoft Corporation recently released KC ArtSnap app, a mobile application developed in partnership with ArtsKC.

KC ArtSnap, available for Android and iOS, is a mobile application using augmented reality that allows users to view art landmarks with a graphic of the original artist overlaid into the image.  In this case, users of KC Art Snap are able to capture friends and family posing with Kansas City art celebrities at their corresponding landmarks.

This is the second time Mersoft has implemented augmented reality technology in connection with the arts. Mersoft developed a similar technology for the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in 2012, which allowed museum visitors to experience art in a new reality. According to Jeff Weiner, V.P., Engineering Services at Mersoft, “It was tremendously successful and so we actively sought a partnership with ArtsKC this year.”

“As a software engineering company, we’re always looking for ways to energize our team members to help them think creatively, work together and push the limits of their current knowledge to try new things.  We’ve found a great way to do that is through a partnership with the arts,” says Weiner.

The Android version of KC ArtSnap was released March 6th, followed by iOS on March 28th. The app will be publicly debuted by ArtsKC at First Fridays in the Crossroads district on May 2nd.
